WAT Marked
The sighted octagonal barrel marked Patent Arms M'g. Co. Paterson N.J. - Colt's Pt. and stamped with the very rare inspector's mark WAT for William A. Thornton, (vintage non-factory rear sight), the revolver made for scarce loading lever (replaced during period of use by a Colt Model 1851 lever and latch), stagecoach hold-up scene (faint but "COLT" still visible), walnut grips
8 7/8 inch (22.5 cm.) barrel
Grey patina overall, German-silver fore-sight and small iron rear sight were added during period of use, loading lever replaced as noted, barrel lug is a repair and it too is from an 1851 Navy revolver (bears traces of serial number of the 40,000 range), repairs at backstrap and recoil sheild, cylinder scene faint but visible.
The "Texas Paterson" was the largest Colt production handgun of the Patent Arms Manufacturing Company period. Approximately 1000 were produced with a relatively small number still extant. Of these a small group of military inspected revolvers were purchased by the United States Government for the Texas Navy.
