A RARE 8X75MM OBERNDORF MAGNUM MAUSER SPORTING RIFLE BY J.P. SAUER & SOHN, SUHL, NO. 34383 FOR 1910
The barrel engraved 8x75mm, marked at breech FRIED. KRUPP A.G. ESSEN/NIROSTA and around circumfirence of breech J.P. SAUER & SOHN, SUHL, mounted with single standing and one folding leaf rear sight and platinum bead fore-sight on matte ramp base, single square-bridge magnum Mauser 98 action with simple engraved embellishments, checkered flat bolt handle, quick detachable scope mounts (lacking scope), Brenneke-type side safety, special-order Mauser folding peep sight mounted behind tang, double set triggers, figured pistol-grip walnut stock, checkered at wrist and fore-end, checkered hard rubber butt-plate, gold inlaid family crest, and cheekpiece
29½ inch (75 cm.) barrel, action proofed B,U; barrel proofed B,U,G; 1910 action, barrel dated 3/30, therefore bored for S-Type bullet Some rust staining at fore-sight, otherwise with much original blue finish throughout, lacking scope
Prior to the developement of the 8x68mm RWS cartridge, the 8x75mm was the most powerful 8mm sporting cartridge available. Very few rifles were produced for this round, which required the magnum length Mauser action.
