The Racing Schooner METEOR IV

A full hull model of this famous racing schooner owned by the Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany. This model with white topsides, a gold cove stripe, a black waterline and a dark rust bottom. The model has a scored mahogany deck and is fitted with deck structures and cabins. The model is well detailed with: cleats, stove pipe, coils of line, two boats on davits, binnacle, double ships wheel, and numerous other details. The model is rigged with two masts with upper and lower sections, spreaders, gaffs and booms, standing and running rigging including sidestays, running backstays, sheets, turning blocks, a full suit of cotton sails which have stitched panels, and flags from Imperial Germany, the Kiel Sailing Club and the Emperor's private signal. The model is displayed in a brass bound glass case with a mahogany base.

Lot Essay

This was the fourth of five yachts named Meteor which were built for the Emperor of Germany. Meteor IV had the distinction of being the first of the line to be designed, built and crewed entirely by Germans.
