The Cadillac Motor Car Company came out of the ambition of Henry Martin Leland, born in 1843. Leland was an enginerring purist like Henry Royce and when he rescued the Detriot Motor Company in 1902, he wanted to build quality cars. He called the company Cadillac after the early French explorer of the Midwest. In 1908, the company became part of GM and soon were leaders of that group. In 1914 they introduced the world's first commercially successful V-8 engine which stayed into production in its first series until 1926. Cadillac advertisements boasted that the engine had "liquid smoothness".
The 353ci. V-8 used in the 1930 model was actually Cadillac's second generation V-8, having been introduced in 1927 in the LaSalle. In 1930, the V-8 was offered in the Series 353 and rated at 95 bhp at 3,000 rpm.
The 1930 Cadillac Roadster design is considered by many to be the most desireable of that period. This car is fitted with replica Fleetwood style coachwork that is indistinguishable from the orginal. The former owner is a noted a restorer who has won numerous first place and best of show awards at various Concours events throughout the country. In the early 1990s he undertook a complete nut and bolt restoration of the Cadillac including carefully replicating the atrractive and desireable Roadster coachwork.
