305 x 210mm. 52 leaves (the last a paste-down), 39 lines, written in brown ink in a gothic rotunda, each page encadrée, 15 VERY FINE LARGE HISTORIATED ILLUMINATED INITIALS, 6-line to 12-line, decorated with coloured birds, flowers and grotesque faces on burnished gold ground; ONE LARGE AND 3 FULL-PAGE MINIATURES. Original red velvet over paper boards (spine very worn, ties lacking)

THE SUBJECTS OF THE MINIATURES ARE:
folio 2v. St.Francis and St.Philip praying beneath the crucified Christ, a city in the background. Within a wide border on gold ground, containing 13 putti carrying the instruments of the Passion and medallions of two saints
folio 3. The family of Gomez: man, wife and son, all in 16th-century dress, praying to an image of the Virgin of Guadaloupe above, within a border of naturalistic fruit, insects, birds and flowers on gold ground.
folio 3v. In two compartments: the upper has St.James on a white horse, with banner and sword riding over the corpses of moors, within a border of armour; below the coat of arms of the family of Gomez, with fine renaissance embellishments.
