Sixth edition of this collection. These works on the Latin language not only give insight into the evolution of Latin as a living language, but they are particularly notable for being the sole means of transmission of the works of earlier writers. It is only through Nonius, for example, that we have works by writers of the Republic such as Sallust's Historiae, Varro's poetry, and Lucilius. Festus is also an important source for mythology.
