For the second year in succession Nottingham Forest won the European Cup by defeating S.V.Hamburg 1-0 at the Bernabeau Stadium, Madrid, on 28th May 1980 before a crowd of 50,000, John Robertson scoring the only goal of the game in the 21st minute.
On their way to this historic 'Double' Forest defeated Osters IF Vaxjo 3-1 on aggregate; F.C.Arges Pitesti 4-1 on aggregate; Dynamo Berlin 3-2 on aggregate and in the semi-final Ajax 2-1 on aggregate
