AN HISPANO-MORESQUE LARGE DISH
Valencia, mid-15th century

Of shallow conical form with flat rim, the centre decorated in copper-lustre with the sacred monogram IHS surrounded by radiating panels of meandering brony in underglaze-blue with copper-lustre-centred flowers and scrolling tendrils, the underside broadly painted with underglaze-blue brony and copper-lustre scrolling foliage, pierced for hanging (area of rim restored between 4 o'clock and 6 o'clock and with an associated crack towards the centre, restored rim chips at 1, 2 and 7 o'clock, some very minor areas of restored glaze flaking to flat rim, three slight rim chips to underside)
