Lot Essay

A design for the front and side of the Tomb of King John of Bohemia. King John was an ancestor of the Prussian Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm IV and his wife, Elisabeth of Bavaria, who commissioned Schinkel to make the tomb to be set up in the so-called Klause (hermitage) near Kastel in the Saarland in 1836.
