34, Hertford Street, London, Plate Book (circa 1938-1944) - page 12 (Drawing Room) - obtained from Christie's, £45.0.0, pagoda crown and exotic birds from Pierpont Morgan's sale.'
The English collections of the great American financier J.P. Morgan were sold by Christie's in a series of sales in March 1944, having been removed from Wall Hall, Aldenham, Hertfordshire. There were several gilt mirrors in the sale, but none of the external measurements conform to this mirror, but it is possible that the Christie's cataloguers were measuring the plate only. The most likely candidate would then be lot 235 on 23 March 1944, 'Another [Chippendale mirror], in gilt frame carved with scrollwork and with pagoda ornament at the top'.
