Lot Essay

Born in Fergan, Uzbekistan, Volkov studied from 1910 to 1912 at the private studios of Mikhail Bernstein, Nikolai Roerich and Ivan Bilibin. From 1912 to 1916, he attended the Kiev Art Institute before returning to Central Asia in 1916 where he took up residence in Tashkent.
