Lot Essay

INDENT This decoration was instituted by the Chinese Government for the purpose of rewarding foreigners. Major Coney, Lieutenant Carden and six Privates of the 67th Regiment were awarded the decoration for their services against the rebels in the Northern Provinces 1862-63. Royal Permission to accept and wear the decoration was granted on 14 December 1864 (Whitaker's British War Medals, part l, p. 234 and part 2, p. 132 refers)
