BELLAFINO, Francesco. Libro del'origine, & tempi de la nobile, & antica citta di Bergamo ... Nouamente nela volgare lingua tradotto dal R.D. Giouan Antonio Licino. Bergamo: Gallo de'Galli, 20 November 1555 [colophon 20 April 1556].
4° (180 x 113mm). Woodcut device on half-title and on last leaf, a few woodcut decorations. (Some chapter numbers towards the end rather clumsily changed by hand.) Modern red morocco. Provenance: Albert Ehrman (2 bookplates).
THE FIRST BOOK PRINTED AT BERGAMO, appropriately enough a history of the city from ancient times to 1516. It is also the first edition of the text, a Latin edition not being published until 1532. Some bibliographers have postulated that Galli printed the ten or so books that comprise his output at Milan, but the crudeness of his productions there make that unlikely. Fumagalli pp.33-34; Ascarelli p.166.
