A Pair of Huanghuali Spindle-Back Armchairs, Meiguiyi

After a bamboo prototype, each with a straight toprail, supported on round posts extending to the back legs and flanking the round section spindles, with a matching series of spindles bracing rectangular arms, the broad rectanglar frame with soft mat seat supported on legs of round section joined by humpback stretchers with short vertical posts, the base with stepped stretchers and a footrail with narrow apron

A similar pair of chairs, but with plain aprons in place of humpback stretchers, sold in these rooms, 21 March 1997, lot 203.
