8° (215 x 127mm). Hand-coloured engraved frontispiece and title, 100 hand-coloured etched and engraved plates. (Occasional light spotting, plates 6 and 34 just trimmed at outer edge, plate 75 with clean tear to lower outer corner affecting one line of caption, without loss.) Modern half mottled calf. Provenance: F. H. L. Koss (signature dated 1817).

Second edition of Duke's treatise: the first was published in two volumes in 1740. The present edition was sold in both coloured and uncoloured states, costing 15s and 5s respectively. Each of the first six plates bears an engraved caption stating whose garden supplied the specimen for illustration. Henrey II, pp. 459-462; Nissen BBI 554; Dunthorne 102.
