SCHENK, Peter (1661-1715). Views of Venice, Rome and its environs. Amsterdam: [ca 1715].
2° (543 x 342mm). Without title or text, mounted on guards and engraved throughout. 28 double-page plates by Schenk, two after Falda and two after Leonard Schenk, lettered in Latin and Dutch. (Occasional old light marginal dampstaining.) Modern boards.
A fine collection of views of Roman and Venice, comprising 12 views of Rome, one of a service in St Peters, one of the carnival, 13 of fountains, water features and gardens in and around Rome (including views of the villa d'Este), one view of a waterfall outside Rome, and two views of Venice (the Rialto bridge and St Mark's square). Although Schenk only acknowledges Falda on two plates, a number of the others also appear to be based on his originals. Cf. Berlin Kat. 3494 (lists four villa d'Este plates).
