Lot Essay

Der Bildermann was issued from April to December 1916 as a continuation of the journal Kriegszeit, published by Paul Cassirer between August 1914 and March 1916. The new title was accompanied by a change of editor, Leo Kestenberg, a musician and critic who led the publication in a new artistic direction characterized by idyllic works such as Otto Mueller's Drei Figuren und grekreuzte Stämme and Käthe Kollwitz's Mutter mit Kind auf dem Arm
