gouache on paper heightened with gold, seated on a lotus base in yabyum with his consort, signed, dated 1940, framed and glazed; a Buddhistic deity seated on a lotus base above mountains in the distance, signed, dated 1940, framed and glazed; Dharmavarman, watercolour on card, seated wearing a crown of sculls and celestial scarf, signed, framed; and Buddha amongst various natural objects, signed, dated 1948, Vienna -- 105.5 x 79.5cm. max. (minor damages).

Lot Essay

Manjusri Thero was a Buddhist priest who began painting at the age of thirty five. During a four year pilgrimage he studied under the chief artist to the Tashi Lama in Tibet and Rabindranath Tagore in India.
