Lot Essay

Very little is known about Jacques Hupin, although there are signed paintings by him in a private collection, France and the Musée d'Auxerre (see M. Faré, Le Grand Siècle de la Nature Morte en France: Le XVIIéme Siècle, 1974, pp. 238-9, illustrated). His paintings often show an accumulation of fine objects and musical instruments, sometimes before a curtain, displayed on tables or ledges draped with acutely observed turkish carpets.
