Lot Essay

Laurent Dey, maître in 1744, initially established himself on the Rue de la Cerisaie in 1733 and is finally listed on the Rue Saint-Antoine in 1748. He entered into partnership with his son, Nicholas-Laurent in 1765, who continued the business following his father's death in 1774. They are known to have used cases by F. Goyer, B. Lieutaud, N.J. Marchant, A. Foullet and J.J. de Saint-Germain.

A musical clock with a nearly identical case with delicate foliate boulle inlay to the waisted case and with matching dragon mounts to the hips to the tops of the legs is illustrated in Tardy, La Pendule Française, Paris, 1974, première partie, p.138, fig.2.
