Original pen and ink drawing by Edmund Joseph Sullivan. Created for quantrain XXVI of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, first published in 1913.
"Oh, come with old Khayyam, and leave the Wise,
To talk; one thing is certain, that Life flies;
One thing is certain, and the Rest is Lies;
The Flower that once has blown for ever dies."
The drawing was recreated by the Grateful Dead for the cover of their 1971 album Skeleton And Roses. Includes a copy of the original book.
