THE COMMITMENTS
A collection of musical instruments used in the 1991 Alan Parker film The Commitments comprising:
a 1973 Fender Rhodes eight octave portable electric piano with sustain pedal, detachable lid and folding legs, 22½ x 45in. - used by Michael Aherne as Stephen Clifford;
a modern Japanese tenor saxaphone by Yanagisawa in case 6½ x 24½in. - used by Felim Gormley as Dean Fay;
a 1968 Fender Telecaster bass guitar, Serial No. 250026, blonde finish, slab body, maple neck, headstock with Fender logo, 20 fret fingerboard with black dot inlays, single pickup, two controls, tailpiece and white pickguard with finger rest, converted for left hand use - used by Ken McClusky as Derek Scully;
a guitar case covered in printed stickers including This Guitar Kills Fascists - used by Glen Hansard as Outspan Foster;
four tambourines including two crescent shaped ones by Rhythm Tech - used by Aneline Ball as Imelda, Bronagh Gallagher as Bernie and Maria Doyle as Natalie;
a Pearl five piece drumkit comprising a 22 in. bass drum, 12 in. and 13 in. tom-toms, a 16 in. floor tom and a 14 in. Tama snare drum, each in case (cases damaged); and a selection of hardware including a bass drum pedal, a hi-hat stand with Paiste 15 in. hi-hats, two cymbal stands with Zildjian 16 in. crash cymbals, a part snare stand, two drum stools and three sets of sticks - used by Dick Massey as Billy and Dave Finnigan as Micka.; accompanied by a letter from the vendor stating that signatures can be obtained from The Commitments for this material provided the purchaser can undertake to ship the pieces to Temple Lane Studios in Dublin.

Lot Essay

Alan Parker's film The Commitments recently won three B.A.F.T.A. awards. The guitar in the above lot featured in the incident where Derek is electrocuted at The Commitments' first concert and sent to hospital as a result.
