SIEVWRIGHT, William. History of Cricket in Perth from 1812 to 1894 , Perth, 1896, 8°, with mounted photograph of the author, tinted half tone portrait of the Perthshire Eleven, 1876, and tipped in half tone portraits towards end extracted from another work. The dedication leaf, 2ll. preface, contents leaf, and pp. 129-424 are supplied in manuscript in the author's hand, contemporary half calf (rubbed), g.e. [not in Padwick who only records Sievwright's Historical Sketch of the Perth Cricket Club of 1880, though he does list a History of Cricket in Perth, 1812-94 by R. Halley through a reference in James Barlas's Cricket in Perth 1827 to 1920 (1921)]. Provenance: J. Harvey, Perth (ownership inscription on front free endpaper).
The copy of this work in Perth & Kinross Library is also a part printed, part manuscript copy of an identical nature. Until the emergence of this copy, the Perth Library copy had in fact been considered unique. The assumption is that Sievwright ran out of funds when the work was only partly printed, but that in his enthusiasm he completed a number of copies by himself acting as scribe.
