Lot Essay

Timlin was a Northern-born artist who moved to South Africa in the early 1900s and produced fantasy illustrations (The Ship that sailed to Mars: A Fantasy, 1923) as well as landscapes of South Africa (South Africa, 1927). This work was for a series to illustrate the book The Building of a Fairy City, but these were never published, although some were issued as prints.
