A CENTRAL EUROPEAN BRONZE AXE HEAD
BRONZE AGE, CIRCA 1600-1500 B.C.
The disc-butt with central conical boss, with flaring trapezoid blade, flanges flanking the cylindrical shaft-hole, 7 5/8 in. (19.3 cm.) long; two European tinned bronze socketed axes with side loop, early 1st millennium B.C., 3¾ in. (9.5 cm.) long av.; a Central European bronze short sword, the grip with moulded bands and semicircular guard, the curving pommel with twin spiral volutes flanking a central conical knob, with fragmentary blade, circa 8th Century B.C., hilt and upper blade 11¼ in. (28.5 cm.) long; an Italic bronze pelta-shaped breastplate, the bronze plate with a border decorated with twelve riveted bosses, the reverse edge reinforced with a sheet bronze strip, mottled green patination, mounted, circa 7th Century B.C., 10¼ x 10 in. (26 x 25.3 cm.); and two fragmentary Western Asiatic bronze fenestrated axes, early 2nd millennium B.C., 4 7/8 in. (12.3 cm.) long max. (7)
