GRIEG, Edvard (1843-1907). Autograph musical quotation inscribed and signed ("Edvard Grieg"), to Caroline Mäher, Leipzig, 23 December 1895. 1 page, an oblong (3½ x 5 in.), matted with a portrait photograph and framed back-to-back with the following in a giltwood frame. A carefully penned manuscript of four full bars from Grieg's Piano Sonata Op.7, marked "alla menuetto," in ink on two hand-drawn staves, the portrait depicting the composer in black tie, with crossed arms, looking boldly into the camera. Grieg wrote extensively for the piano, notably his ten volumes of Lyric Pieces and other short compositions, many derived from Norwegian folk-music. His four movement Piano Sonata in E minor, Op.7, is entitled Siren's Enticement -- [With]: BRAHMS, Johannes (1833-1897). Bold autograph signature ("Johannes Brahms"). 1 page, oblong 2¾ x 5 7/8 in., matted with a good early photograph of Brahms in profile with his arms crossed.
