FIRST EDITION, LIMITED TO 2,000 COPIES, this number 1427 of 1945 copies on alfa bouffant d'Écosse. A FINE PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY COCTEAU AND DECORATED WITH AN ORIGINAL FULL-PAGE DRAWING OF A MALE BUST IN THREE-QUARTER PROFILE. Carte blanche collects twenty articles by Cocteau published in Paris-Midi between 31 March and 11 August 1919. The title of the collection is explained in the first article thus: ' ''Je vous donne carte blanche'', me disait le directeur de Paris-Midi. J'emprunte donc CARTE BLANCHE. Sous ce titre, je me propose de mettre chaque semaine le lecteur au courant des valeurs nouvelles' (p.7). The pieces discuss the work of avant-garde contemporaries such as Apollinaire, Léger, Marinetti, Picasso and Stravinsky, and comment incisively on their work: 'Le bruit a couru que Picasso renonçait au cubisme. C'est un bruit absurde. Les objets le suivent jusqu'où bon lui semble, et là se déforment et se reconstruisent sans rien perdre de leur force. Picasso est un charmeur d'objets' (p.11). Talvart and Place Bibliographie des auteurs modernes III, p.180.
