Lot Essay

In order to cut a perfect round brilliant diamond of over 40 carats, one has to start with a rough stone weighing approximately 150 carats. This is due to the fact that circular-cut diamonds demand very intricate cutting and the final yield of this shape is lower than that of other forms. Therefore, the 44.22 carat diamond offered for sale here is not only rare because of the tremendous amount of weight sacrificed on this stone but also because of the precision of a skilled diamond cutter in finishing this gem with excellent polish and symmetry and near perfect proportions.
