Lot Essay

This work, executed during 1911-1917, was also titled Bronx River at Mt. Vernon. The painting is one of three heretofore unlocated early oils by Oscar Bluemner, and is documented, along with record sketches, in Bluemner's first Painting Diary (Smithsonian Institution Archives of American Art, New York, Mircofilm Roll 339: Frame 114 [1911]; Frame 482 [1917]).
