JOSLIN'S TEN INCH TERRESTRIAL GLOBE Manufactured by GILMORE JOSLIN, BOSTON. [c.1845]
A fine 10-inch (25.4cm.) diameter terrestrial table globe made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores and two polar calottes, the equatorial graduated in degrees, hours and minutes, the meridian of Greenwich ungraduated, the equinoctial colure graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac, the oceans with an analemma, and lines for the northern and southern limits of wood, grain, the vine and bananas, Antarctica with Land discov.d by Capt. Wilkes of the U.S. Ship Vincennes, the islands of Peter I and Alexander I and Cap.t Weddell R.N. reached this point 1823, the continents with nation states variously and delicately shaded in pastel colours, showing towns, cities, rivers, mountains, deserts and the Chinese Wall (minor discolouration and discrete minor repairs) with unengraved brass meridian circle and horizon ring, raised on four brass quadrant supports to an ebonised baluster-turned column and circular plinth base -- 19½in. (49.5cm.) high
