3 parts in one volume, small 8° (165 x 116mm.), woodcut portrait of Gabriele Simeoni on title, medallion of Diana on verso, 188 woodcuts by Bernard Salomon with verse beneath and ornamental borders, title of part II within historiated border, one full-page woodcut of "La Fontana di Roiag in Overnia", title of part III with woodcut device of the author and 4 woodcut illustrations (occasional light marginal thumb-soiling, a few light spots), green morocco gilt by Lortic, gilt triple fillets on sides, raised bands, spine lettered in one compartment, the others elaborately decorated in gilt, gilt inner dentelles, gilt edges (spine lightly faded, edges of covers lightly browned). First edition of Simeoni's translation. "Simeoni's abridgment of the Metamorphoses begins on leaf a6v, printed in the manner of the 1557 Metamorphose figuree, with Bernard Salomon's woodcuts, captions in roman letter, Simeoni's verse legends in italic letter, and ornamental borders throughout. A medallion 'Caos' and fifteen new subjects have been added to the 1557 set, and two substitutions made. With six earlier blocks omitted, the total number of illustrations is one hundred eighty-eight" (Mortimer). Adams O508A; Mortimer French 405.
