Lot Essay

The three-slat child's armchair numbered "0" was the smallest of the standard chair line manufactured at New Lebanon. See Kassay, The Book of Shaker Furniture (Amherst, 1980), p. 86, fig. 19. According to a circa 1850 pricelist, a New Lebanon Shaker child's chair cost 75 cents, with an extra 50 cents charged for placing a tape seat on a rocking chair (see Rieman, The Shaker Chair (Winchester, Ohio, 1984), p. 159).
