Enamelled with a scene allegorical of Earth showing goddesses emblematic of the four seasons riding in a dog-drawn chariot, putti cavorting with baskets of flowers in the foreground, all in a landscape with a border of blue enamel scrolling vine

Lot Essay

This decoration after paintings commissioned by Cardinal Maurice of Savoy (later King of Sardinia) from Francesco Albani (1578-1669) that are now in the Turin Museum. A popular success, the series was pubnlished in a number of engravings. See Hervouet and Bruneau, op. cit., p. 318
