Early 20th century, probably supplied by Lenygon & Co.
The central stem with carved putti heads issuing nine scrolling candelarms and dished drip-pans, over a leaf-tipped finial, drilled for electricity
25in. (64cm.) high, 31in. (79cm.) wide

Lot Essay

This chandelier and the following lot match three chandeliers formerly in the collection of Viscount Leverhume at Thornton Manor and sold by Order of the Executors, Sotheby's House sale, 26-28 June 2001, lots 59-61, (lots 59 and 60 £14,300 each, lot 61 £18,900).

The chandeliers of this design closely relate to a pair in the 'Colonnade Rooms' at Knole Park, Kent, illustrated in R. Edwards and P. MacQuoid, The Dictionary of English Furniture, vol. 2, P.5, fig, 8.
