A LOUIS-XV STYLE FAN
late 19th Century
The centre painted with a panel possibly commemorating the marriage of the Dauphin, later King Louis XVI to Marie-Antoinette, the pierced ivory sticks carved all over with trelliswork with central vignette in gilt and silvered with two seated female figures flanked by heroes, with a ship and armorial trophies and a plinth in the distance, the paper leaf decorated with a central oval panel of a bedroom scene with a male figure and seated female figures within a gilt sequinned border, a central oval cartouche enclosing interlaced initials MA surmounted by a crown and flanked on either side by oval female portrait panels and putti holding aloft oval frames enclosing panels of fruit
10½ in. (260 mm.), in fan-shaped glazed case
