A GERMAN GOLD-MOUNTED PORCELAIN SNUFF-BOX WITH JEWELLED THUMBPIECE
Meissen, circa 1755
Rectangular box with slightly raised lid, each side with scroll-moulded cartouches enclosing landscape vignettes painted in kupfer-grün and black with figures at various pursuits in landscapes, their faces and arms enriched with red, the interior of the cover painted in a full palette with a shepherd playing the bagpipes to two seated shepherdesses in a wooded landscape, the bright-cut gold mount with an emerald and diamond-set foliate silver and gold thumbpiece
