possibly Berlin, circa 1765/1770
Oval box, the raised cover, base and sides painted in the manner of Watteau with scènes galantes in idyllic landscapes within scroll-moulded and trellis cartouches, the interior gilt, the inside of the cover painted with a gallant seated next to an old lady, Harlequin watching from nearby, the reeded gold mounts with raised wavy foliate thumbpiece
