Of squat bulbous form, boldly carved in relief with sinuous chilong, the glass of brilliant pinkish-red color with graining and pitting imitating coral, stopper

Lot Essay

Glass copying coral is surprisingly rare in snuff bottles, with most examples dating from the late Qing dynasty or the Republican period and of poor quality, apparently made to deceive foreign collectors. This is an earlier, and particularly good example.
