In the early 1980s Lord Hesketh, following on from his privateer success in Formula 1, channelled his enthusiasm and engineering facilities into building a motorcycle of the highest quality, as an attempt to revive the British bike industry. Developed on the Hesketh Estate at Easton Neston, by spring 1980 a prototype was ready. It was in many ways a revolution in British manufacture as it was powered by a four valve per cylinder double over head cam engine amongst other innovative high-tech features. However, the project lacked funding to be properly manufactured and whilst support came from the City of London to establish Hesketh Motorcycles PLC, there was not enough money or time to get production up and running properly before the company became victim of the early 1980s recession.

Only 100 V1000 motorbikes were actually built, but the buyers of these required support and back up, so the decision was made for the development team to continue to provide this. This in itself developed, and between 1982-84 further V1000s were constructed under the name of Hesleydon Ltd. Since that time all development, production and support has been provided by Broom Development Engineering, and today production still continues with an output of approximately 12 machines per year, a V1000 costing £11,750 new.

This V1000 was purchased new by the present owner in 1987. In 1993 it returned to Broom Development Engineering to be uprated to the later EN10 specification, but although used privately it has never been registered for the road. The recorded mileage is accordingly low, at a mere 377 miles.

The condition as one would expect is excellent throughout, and despite being unregistered, the Hesketh is 'on the button' and has a current MoT.
