Lot Essay

This guitar was a gift to record producer Chips Moman from Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers Band in the early 1980s. It was the Allman Brothers' 'house' guitar which was played regularly by Betts on stage with the Allman Brothers Band during the 1970s. According to the accompanying receipt, made out in the name of Allman Bros for this Sunburst Les Paul # 9 1237, the guitar was purchased for $800 on 11 December, 1971.
