Lot Essay

Bal Bullier was one of the most fashionable night-spots of Montparnasse that attracted flocks of people who would come simply to tango, a scandalous dance at the time. The present drawing is a study for one of the dancing couples in the large mural painting of the same title (coll. Musée National d'Art Moderne, Paris).
