No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VA… Read more The Property of the late David Snelling (Lots 420-449) David Snelling, who died in July 2001, was an enthusiastic collector of mechanical music, well known to members of the MBSGB, MBSI and the German GSM. A much-travelled man in his early career, he lived latterly on the Isle of Man, but seldom failed to attend a meeting of his fellow enthusiasts or a major fair on the mainland. An interest in electronic communication by radio led to a natural enthusiasm for the Internet, and advice on cataloguing a mechanical music collection on computer formed the subject of an article for The Music Box, as did his research into the musical boxes of E. Karrer-Hoffman. He will be widely remembered for his cheerful smile and knowledgeable enthusiasm.

No. 51308, playing eight airs, (Gamme no. 4526), with two combs, nickel-plated movement, tune indicator and grained case, the lid inlaid with a harp and music motif - 20¾in. (53cm.) wide, the cylinder 11in. (28cm.), probably by Paillard.
