Four Chelsea claret-ground two-handled chocolate-cups, covers and giltmetal-mounted stands, and a later English porcelain replacement stand
Circa 1765, gold anchor marks, the giltmetal galleries contemporary or of very slightly later date
The lower part of the cups and the saucers with moulded radiating overlapping stylised foliage, enriched in claret and gilt with veining, beneath a border of richly-gilt ciselé flowers, foliage and scattered insects, within gilt dentil rims, the entwined scroll-moulded foliage handles and finials enriched in turquoise and gilding, the stands fitted with interlocking ropetwist gilt metal wires forming pierced galleries (two finials restored, some pieces with cracking, chipping and staining, slight rubbing to gilding)
The stands 6 in. (15 cm.) diam. (5)

Almost certainly purchased by Thomas, 2nd Marquess of Bath (1765-1837), Longleat, Wiltshire and by descent at Longleat.
