A LOUIS XVI ORMOLU-MOUNTED SATINWOOD, AMARANTH, TULIPWOOD AND TRELLIS PARQUETRY TABLE DE TOILETTE
By Godefroy Dester, originally in mahogany, the trellis parquetry veneer first half 19th Century
Inlaid overall with ebony-inlaid trellis, the crossbanded and banded rectangular sliding top revealing a spring-loaded red leather-lined writing-surface with a mirror on the reserve, flanked by two lidded compartments with mahogany-lined interiors, above a mahogany-lined frieze drawer, with fluted angles, on fluted turned tapering legs, with turned feet, stamped 'JME' and 'G. DESTER', and inscribed in chalk 'Septre 29', previously with handles
28½ in. (72.5 cm.) high; 32 in. (81 cm.) wide; 19½ in. (48.5 cm.) deep
Provenance
Almost certainly bought by Thomas, 2nd Marquess of Bath (1765-1837) for Longleat, Wiltshire and by descent at Longleat.
