Contemporary red straight-grained morocco gilt, emblematic tools and the initials G P on covers, green morocco lettering-piece, other spine compartments tooled à la grotesque with a small roll, marbled endpapers, edges gilt. FINE BINDING BY HANWAY'S SECOND BINDER on a work foreshadowing the 'get-tough' policies adopted towards prisoners early in the next century.
