A HUANGHUALI LOW-BACK ARMCHAIR, FUSHOUYI
17th century
The serpentine toprail with high rounded corners that continue to the curving back posts extending through a hard mat seat to become the back legs, the unique low horizontal back panel with openwork carving of two playful confronted dragons flanking lingzhi fungus above a beaded curvilinear apron with entwining leafy tendrils, each unusual elongated S-shaped arm above a similarly shaped stretcher, supported by an openwork plaque of a long-tailed dragon with lingzhi fungus, the front and sides with a beaded curvilinear apron continuing to form the spandrels,
