Lot Essay

Dr. D.A. Wittop Koning mentions in his book Nederlandse Vijzels, Deventer, 1953, on page 55 that he knows of two large bronze mortars by Gerrit Bakker. One with inscription G. BAKKER ROTTERDAM AO 1768, which was offered at Frederik Muller in Amsterdam in December 1925. The other with inscription GERRIT BAKKER ROTTERDAM AO 1786, which was owned by apothecary Hegland in Utrecht.
