Emily Shackleton's family photograph album including approximately 302 photographs recording Emily's family life from c.1900-1914, including Shackleton's visits to the Firs, Sydenham in 1900, and his courtship with Emily, life in Scotland 1904-1906, holidays in Margate and Torquay 1906-1907, the departure of the British Antarctic Expedition, 1907, with views taken on S.Y. Nimrod, life in Eastbourne, 1908, the return of the British Antarctic Expedition, 1909, the Canadian tour in May 1910, preparations in Norway for the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, 1914, and others, the photographs mounted on the recto and verso of 27 cream leaves. Oblong folio, half black morocco gilt, extremities rubbed, joints partially split.

Lady Shackleton (1868-1936) and thence by descent to the present owners.
A unique and intimate photographic record of Shackleton's family and family life ranging from his courtship of Emily Dorman in 1900 to his departure on the Endurance in 1914. The archive includes many unpublished photographs of Shackleton and documents the various family households in Sydenham, Scotland and Eastbourne, as well as Emily's snapshots of Shackleton on Discovery, Nimrod and Endurance.
