Lot Essay

This is a most unusual silk rug which does not fit easily into any of the normally accepted categories. The field design is normally typical of Senneh, but the rug is loosely woven with two cotton wefts between each row of knots, which would preclude Senneh being the origin. The structure and the main border design are both typical of Bakshaish wool rugs. It is most probable that this is a one-off product of an atelier which normally produced wool carpets and rugs.
