FIRST EDITION, number 333 of 760 copies SIGNED BY EINSTEIN ("Albert Einstein. 49."). Volume VII of the Library of Living Philosophers series. Einstein's Autobiographical Notes occupy the first 96 pages of the volume published in English with the German text on facing pages. In addition Einstein contributed "Remarks to the Essays Appearing in this Collective Volume" (pp. 663-688). Einstein's "autobiographical notes" is actually an account of the development of his scientific thought, and is a major original contribution. His response to the essays published in the volume is also significant because of the extremely high quality of the contributors that include: Arnold Sommerfeld, Louis de Broglie, Wolfgang Pauli, Max Born, Niels Bohr, Hans Reichenbach, Percy Bridgman, F. S. C. Northrop, E. A. Milne, Leopold Infeld, Max von Laue, and Kurt Gödel. This deluxe edition is the only edition of any book for which Einstein signed a significant number of copies. BRL 512. VERY FINE.
